Join us for an in-depth presentation on navigating the legal and clinical complexities of both medical and psychiatric Emergency Custody Orders (ECOs) and Temporary Detention Orders (TDOs).
This lunch-hour session will be led by Dr. Joran Sequeira, VACEP president-elect and medical director with Southside Medical Center, along with Jonathan E. Green, Director of the Department of Magistrate Services at the Supreme Court of Virginia.
During this session, we will decode the legal pathways and practical procedures surrounding ECOs and TDOs, highlighting the roles of magistrates, law enforcement, emergency physicians and staff, and emergency medical personnel. Attendees will gain valuable insights into handling mental health crises and medical emergencies effectively under Virginia law, complete with patient case studies and actionable guidelines.
This event is ideal for Virginia emergency physicians, family medicine doctors, hospital and health system leaders, and those involved with behavioral health crisis management.

ACEP Council is a deliberative body that meets once a year for two days in conjunction with the College’s annual Scientific Assembly. The Council votes on resolutions, including changes to the Bylaws, College Manual, and the Council Standing Rules, which may be submitted by any two members. Resolutions guide policy development and activities of the College.
